In Sunday's segment on Sky News Australia (Weekend Edition with Tim Gilbert) we showed OPPO new flip phone, the Find N2 Flip. It’s set to draw plenty of interest at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona over the next few days. The OPPO Find N2 Flip is coming to Australia and it’s a direct challenger to Samsung’s Flip4 and Motorola Razr. 

The new Samsung Galaxy 23 Ultra now shoots 8K video in 30p, up from 24p. As you will see in this video, the S23 Ultra is on a tripod but it also does some panning and tilting without missing a beat. On a bright, sunny afternoon on Sydney Harbour the 8K is outstanding for a smartphone. The field of view is wider too but not quite wide enough to get the tallest building in shot. Although YouTube may not do it justice, the original files have no banding in the blue sky or artefacts in the water movement. Overall, this is impressive. Here are my first impressions of the Samsung S23 series unpacked today. My focus is the Ultra and its insane 200MP main sensor. Samsung is taking Apple head on in the mobile video category. In Sunday's segment on Sky News Australia (Weekend Edition with Tim Gilbert) took a look at Samung’s new QD-OLED TV, S95B. Samsung is the world’s biggest TV company and by re-entering the OLED market it will force downward pressure on prices on traditional OLED models.

I spent some time with the 65 inch S95B this week and it’s easily the best TV that Samsung makes. It uses QD-OLED technology which combines Quantum Dot and OLED for an ever better picture result than normal OLED sets.

In Sunday's segment on Sky News Australia (Weekend Edition with Tim Gilbert) we looked at amazing tiny robots developed by the team at Northwestern University in Illinois, USA. They developed the smallest-ever remote-controlled walking robot — and it comes in the form of a tiny peekytoe crab. Just a half-millimetre wide, smaller than flea - the tiny robot crabs can bend, twist, crawl, walk, turn and even jump. The researchers also developed millimetre-sized robots resembling inchworms, crickets and beetles. The team used a laser beam to rapidly heat the robot. The heating and fast cooling creates motion.

In the very near future tiny robots, like these experimental creations, could assist in medical procedures like clearing clogged arteries, stopping internal bleeding or eliminating cancerous tumours. There’s a long, long way to go but this is exciting stuff.

Expert RAW is a ‘pro’ app that takes advantage of Ultra’s powerful camera array and ability to capture 16-bit images. It will allow users to unleash the full power of the S22 Ultra and other Samsung cameras. You can download it from the Galaxy Store. Other models supporting Expert RAW are: S21 Ultra and Fold3.

So if you’re doing a little photo editing, you’ll get some amazing results from Samsung’s latest flagship phone.

Australia’s Forcite Helmets has just released the MK1S. A smart helmet inspired by a bike accident the CEO was injured in. It’s taken two years of development and $10.1M of R&D investment. The helmet includes smart navigation technology, alerting riders of upcoming dangers. The LED display is designed to be non-distracting - no need to look down or at a head-up display.

There’s no bulky clip-on camera or headsets. An embedded camera records continuously - in HD. Following an accident, or even a dropped helmet, Forcite owners can send their helmet to have the shell replaced and the tech components salvaged.

Another great Australian tech success story.

This system developed by Advanced Navigation is much safer.

In Sunday's segment on Sky News Australia (Weekend Edition with Tim Gilbert) we looked Infalurt. It is an Australian designed, manufactured and owned in-car alert system that reminds parents their child is still in their car seat.

Each year thousands of Aussie kids are rescued after being left unattended in a car. But help is available thanks to locally developed technology. Infalurt has three simple components: a sensor that sits beneath the child seat, a control unit in an accessible position to the driver and a key fob alarm. The remote sensing technology sounds an alarm if the key holder leaves the car when a child is in the back seat.

In Sunday's segment on Sky News Australia (Weekend Edition with Tim Gilbert) we looked at Samsung’s S22 ULTRA. Is it the phone of the year already? The phone combines the best of the Note (S-Pen) and the best of the S-Series (Cameras).

We look at the productivity and image capturing capabilities of the ULTRA with plenty of test shots taken around Sydney Harbour at night. More testing is needed before we can say this will be phone of the year. The iPhone 13 Pro Max is holding its own at this point.

Tim called during the week about his daughter’s missing iPhone. We discovered that Find My wasn’t active but fortunately they located the phone later in the day. iPhones and Android devices have built-in location tracking but you must turn it on as soon as you setup your mobile.

We take you through the basics so you can always find your phone because some of the settings have changed. Third party apps are not needed.

Samsung Electronics has officially announced the Exynos 2200 is currently in mass production. So it appears it will be jammed into upcoming versions of the Galaxy S22.

The Exynos 2200 is Samsung’s long awaited mobile processor with AMD RDNA 2 architecture based Samsung Xclipse graphics processing unit (GPU).
