If you're in the market for a military grade tough phone without the bulk, then check out the latest IIIF150 Ultra Thin Rugged Phones.
In this video I got hands on with several models checking out the toughness and water resistance capabilities.
They are impressively thin considering how tough they are in and out of the water.
Thanks to BELKIN for supporting our trip to Mobile World Congress.
Is this it? OPPO AIR GLASS 2 - MWC23 Report
Is this it? Could the OPPO AIR GLASS 2 become the smart glasses we've been waiting for? In this video I get hands-on with the latest prototype at MWC Barcelona.
Image Matrix Tech on Sky News: MWC23 rollable tech - TCL AR glasses - OPPO zero power tags plus Air Glass 2 - Telstra 5G breakthrough - DJI drones making spraying pests more accurate
In Sunday's segment on Sky News Australia (Weekend Edition with Tim Gilbert) we were hands on with Motorola’s rollable screen concept phone at Mobile World Congress in Spain. It drew big crowds along with Lenovo’s rollable laptop screen.
Image Matrix Tech on Sky News: PASSKEYS the end of passwords - Moving from LastPass - Apple mixed-reality headset latest - Epson Ecotank 3 years later
In Sunday's segment on Sky News Australia (Weekend Edition with Tim Gilbert) we took a look at the beginning of the end for passwords. It’s called PASSKEY. The aim is to log in the same way you unlock your phone, using biometrics or a PIN on a device, like your phone. Google, Apple and Microsoft are all committed to PASSKEY and are part of the FIDO ALLIANCE (Fast Identity Online Alliance).
Image Matrix Tech on Sky News: Colour changing BMW - Some of the best CES startups - Instagram impersonators
In Sunday's segment on Sky News Australia (Weekend Edition with Tim Gilbert) we took a look at some of the weird and wonderful tech from CES, the world’s biggest technology show. We started off with BMW’s colour-changing car I-Vision-Dee. Last year BMW showed a black and white version, this year this concept car can switch between 32 colours. It uses e-ink technology on numerous panels so you can have racing stripes and multiple colours at once. The ultimate goal for the Australian engineer leading the project, Stella Clarke - is to make it a spray on system.
Image Matrix Tech on Sky News: Smartphones of the Year - OPPO Innovation - Boost Mobile Adds Global Roaming
In Sunday's segment on Sky News Australia (Weekend Edition with Jaynie Seal) we picked the best smartphones you can buy in 2022.
This year it’s all about reliability not so much innovation. I could not separate the best so there’s a three-way tie for phone of the year.
Image Matrix Tech on Sky News: Tesla Semi rolls out - Boost Trade-in app - Therabody Smart Goggles
In Sunday's segment on Sky News Australia (Weekend Edition with Jaynie Seal) we covered the delivery of the first Tesla semitrailer in the United States. Australian truckies are set for a much longer wait to get behind the wheel of Elon Musk’s latest electric vehicle. At the moment the Tesla Semi might be too wide according to Australian regulations and although its range is 800 kms (impressive) - it won’t make Brisbane to Sydney on a single charge - YET.
But this is a game-changer vehicle. Even under full load it drives like a car. This could encourage more truckies into work. Acceleration from 0 to 100 kph in 20 seconds (full load), single seat but you can stand up in the cabin, powered by three electric motors, safer downhill due to regenerative braking and recharge to 70 per cent in 30 minute using "mega chargers".
Image Matrix Tech on Sky News: Pixel 7 Launched - Pixel Watch First Look - New Facebook Controls
In Sunday's segment on Sky News Australia (Weekend Edition with Jaynie Seal) we took a first look at Google’s new Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro. Widely regarded as the smartest phones available, the Pixels go on sale from October 13.
If you’ve ever deleted a photo because it was blurry .. you may have made a mistake. Google says Photo Unblur can improve blurry photos that suffer from mild to moderate motion blur, camera shake, and mild misfocus blur. The phone uses machine learning to work out what should be sharp in the the picture. These are examples supplied by Google but I’ll be testing this feature on many photos ahead of the review embargo. It works .. and it might save your old library.
Image Matrix Tech on Sky News: LastPass hacked what should you do? - IFA tech show highlights - real world testing Polestar 2 EV Hertz rental
In Sunday's segment on Sky News Australia (Weekend Edition with Tim Gilbert) we discussed what LastPass users should do in the wake of its recent security breach. LastPass - one of the world’s biggest password managers - has 25 million users worldwide, including many Australians. I am one of them. So what do we do? The company said there was no evidence that this incident involved any access to customer data or encrypted password vaults. While embarrassing - LastPass deserves credit for being upfront about the incident. The system is working normally.
First Look: Samsung unpacks Fold 4, Flip 4, Buds 2 Pro and Watch 5 and 5 Pro
FIRST LOOK: Samsung Fold 4 and Flip 4 ready for Prime Time?
Join me as I take a firsthand look at the new Galaxy Fold 4 and Flip 4.
The latest editions of Samsung foldables have reached the point where I am comfortable recommending them to anyone.
They feel solid in the hand and are tough enough to withstand the normal rough and tumble of day-to-day life.
I've been using the Fold since version 2 and it’s come a long way.
In this video we take a look at the Fold 4, Flip 4, Watch 5, Watch 5 Pro and Buds 2 Pro.
Image Matrix Tech on Sky News: Mind-blowing DALL-E 2 AI images - Huawei Blood Pressure Watch - Bonelk Elevate Laptop Stands
In Sunday's segment on Sky News Australia (Weekend Edition with Kristie Lloyd) we explained how Artificial Intelligence is making it possible to create any image (realistic or stylistic) you can dream of by just typing out a description. DALL-E 2, the latest version of Open AI DALL-E is creating a whole new field of art and photography. The AI takes a request, like a Koala on a Motorcycle, then creates multiple versions of it from scratch. Some of the renders are absolutely photo-real.
Image Matrix Tech on Sky News: Inside Telstra Blue Tick Lab - Projectors v TVs - Withings Scanwatch Horizon
In Sunday's segment on Sky News Australia (Weekend Edition with Tim Gilbert) we took a TV exclusive tour of Telstra’s upgraded Blue Tick lab which is in a secret location. Telstra’s Blue Tick program is way more important than I first thought. They are able to simulate outdoor conditions to make sure phones work in Australia - most importantly - in fringe coverage areas. The way we hold a smartphone could prove the difference between making a call or having no signal at all. It’s just one of the many tests inside the lab. It could make the difference on highways or farms by kilometres. And that’s a safety issue.
Image Matrix Tech on Sky News: MIT Computing Fabrics - Zuckerberg Shows Metaverse VR Headsets - EOFY Tech Deals
In Sunday's segment on Sky News Australia (Weekend Edition with Tim Gilbert) we looked at recent breakthroughs in computing fabrics. MIT researchers in the US are weaving computer components into the basic material that makes clothes.
Digital fibres could help reveal undetected patterns in the human body that could aid in early disease detection.
A digital fibre can store data too and the tech looks like real clothes. Ultimately it must work like normal textiles to have a future in smart clothing.
New Apple Watch Pride Edition Bands
One of my favourite Apple Watch bands is the Pride band. So it’s great to see in celebration of Pride month in June, Apple is releasing two new Pride Edition bands plus dynamic Pride watch faces in support of the global LGBTQ+ community and equality movement.
The 2022 Pride Edition Sport Loop displays a colour gradient with the word ‘pride’ woven directly into the band. Apple is also launching a new Shot on iPhone pride campaign on Instagram that captures the essence of artists and figures within the global LGBTQ+ community.
Image Matrix Tech on Sky News: Google Switch to Android App - Forcite MK1S smart helmet for motorbikes - Apple Watch Apps
Australia’s Forcite Helmets has just released the MK1S. A smart helmet inspired by a bike accident the CEO was injured in. It’s taken two years of development and $10.1M of R&D investment. The helmet includes smart navigation technology, alerting riders of upcoming dangers. The LED display is designed to be non-distracting - no need to look down or at a head-up display.
There’s no bulky clip-on camera or headsets. An embedded camera records continuously - in HD. Following an accident, or even a dropped helmet, Forcite owners can send their helmet to have the shell replaced and the tech components salvaged.
Another great Australian tech success story.
Image Matrix Tech on Sky News - Health Trackers and COVID - Pet Health Radar Sensors - Zoom Lighting - Best MagSafe Chargers
In Sunday's segment on Sky News Australia (Weekend Edition with Tim Gilbert) we looked at fitness trackers and COVID-19. Sophisticated companion apps are showing key changes that might indicate a positive case BEFORE symptoms show.
RESPIRATORY RATE - Many WHOOP members have reported experiencing an increase in respiratory rate coinciding with symptoms of COVID-19.
BLOOD OXYGEN LEVEL - People with COVID-19 often have low blood oxygen levels, which may be a warning sign that you are in need of medical care.
Easiest trackers I’ve found for this data is WHOOP 4.0 and Withings Scanwatch. Apple Watch can record both but you must set up sleep tracking first to record breathing. Although not medical devices fitness trackers could provide invaluable information to a doctor looking for trends.
Shenzhen
This is a highlight package of Shenzhen's amazing light show celebrating China's 40th anniversary of reform and opening-up. The rise of Shenzhen from 30 thousand to more than 12 million since 1980 has to be seen to be believed. It's a must visit for any tech lover.
