In Sunday's segment on Sky News Australia (Weekend Edition with Tim Gilbert) we showed OPPO new flip phone, the Find N2 Flip. It’s set to draw plenty of interest at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona over the next few days. The OPPO Find N2 Flip is coming to Australia and it’s a direct challenger to Samsung’s Flip4 and Motorola Razr. 

The new Samsung Galaxy 23 Ultra now shoots 8K video in 30p, up from 24p. As you will see in this video, the S23 Ultra is on a tripod but it also does some panning and tilting without missing a beat. On a bright, sunny afternoon on Sydney Harbour the 8K is outstanding for a smartphone. The field of view is wider too but not quite wide enough to get the tallest building in shot. Although YouTube may not do it justice, the original files have no banding in the blue sky or artefacts in the water movement. Overall, this is impressive. Here are my first impressions of the Samsung S23 series unpacked today. My focus is the Ultra and its insane 200MP main sensor. Samsung is taking Apple head on in the mobile video category. So far I'm impressed but in-depth testing will give us a better idea in a few weeks. Let me know your thoughts in the comments below.

Apple announced four new iPhones today (iPhone 14 | iPhone 14 Plus | iPhone 14 Pro | iPhone 14 Pro Max) but as always it’s the cameras that grab the attention of Image Matrix Tech - so this story is all about the pro line. The iPhone 14 Pro breaks free from the 12MP tradition in the main camera for the first time. Apple has long held firm on tweaking its 12MP sensors - with great results mind you - but this is a big move that will see more changes in coming devices .. hopefully a periscope zoom.

One of the oldest building product makers in the country has launched Australia’s first 3D printing factory for the industry. BOSS PRODUCTS is one of the biggest suppliers of planter boxes and retaining walls and it’s a sign of where the industry is heading overall as it battles supply and personnel issues.

BOSS PRODUCTS searched the world for the most advanced 3D Printing tech only to find it in Melbourne - LUYTEN 3D. The Platypus X2 3D printer has helped cut time and resources by up to 95 percent.

In Sunday's segment on Sky News Australia (Weekend Edition with Tim Gilbert) we took a tour of Siding Spring Observatory, Coonabarabran, where the HUNTSMAN TELESCOPE was launched. (not into space by the way ; )

It’s special because most big telescopes have a big mirror but the Huntsman is using off-the-shelf Canon lenses to better understand galaxy lifecycles - ahead of our collision with the Andromeda Galaxy in 4.5 billion years. These lenses are usually used for sport and wildlife photography. Comprising an array of 10 commercially available Canon EF 400mm f/2.8 L IS II super-telephoto lenses, the Huntsman Telescope is the only telescope of its kind in the Southern Hemisphere. Australia plays an important role in documenting the southern sky and this project is being overseen by the team from Macquarie University.

Telstra’s Blue Tick program is way more important than I first thought. They are able to simulate outdoor conditions to make sure phones work in Australia - most importantly - in fringe coverage areas. The way we hold a smartphone could prove the difference between making a call or having no signal at all. It’s just one of the many tests inside the lab. It could make the difference on highways or farms by kilometres. And that’s a safety issue.
