Image Matrix Tech on Sky News: Proofpoint Black Friday warning - World Cup Projectors - Xiaomi Concept Camera Phone
In Sunday's segment on Sky News Australia (Weekend Edition with Tim Gilbert) we warned Black Friday and Cyber Monday bargain hunters that a quarter of Australia’s top online retailers are not doing enough to protect consumers from cyber crime. Black Friday sales begin this week but one wrong link could end up costing you a lot more. Cybersecurity company Proofpoint has found one in four (25%) of Australia’s top 100 online retailers are not taking appropriate measures to protect consumers from potential email fraud and cyber crime.
Image Matrix Tech on Sky News: Motorola Razr 2022 is here - Belkin MagSafe Mount and Espresso Displays boost Mac productivity - GoPro Hero 11 Black Mini now on sale
In Sunday's segment on Sky News Australia (Weekend Edition with Tim Gilbert) we took a first look at the Motorola Razr 2022 which is now on sale. This is much better than I expected and it is a serious competitor to Samsung’s Galaxy Z-Flip 4. Side by side there are some clear and important differences. This is what you’ll pay.
Razr 2022 256GB $1599
Flip 4 256GB $1649
Image Matrix Tech on Sky News: First look at powerful Dyson gen5detect - Microsoft reveals new Surface models adds DALL-E 2 - and how to get $1K or more for iPhone trade-in
In Sunday's segment on Sky News Australia (Weekend Edition with Tim Gilbert) we gave our audience a first look at Dyson’s new Gen5detect. It’s Dyson’s first cordless vacuum to feature the next-generation motor, spinning at up to 135,000 RPM but it’s also a fully sealed system - and that’s important for our lungs. The machine features a fully sealed, whole-machine HEPA filtration system, engineered to capture 99.99% of particles down to 0.1 microns.
Image Matrix Tech on Sky News: Pixel 7 Launched - Pixel Watch First Look - New Facebook Controls
In Sunday's segment on Sky News Australia (Weekend Edition with Jaynie Seal) we took a first look at Google’s new Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro. Widely regarded as the smartest phones available, the Pixels go on sale from October 13.
If you’ve ever deleted a photo because it was blurry .. you may have made a mistake. Google says Photo Unblur can improve blurry photos that suffer from mild to moderate motion blur, camera shake, and mild misfocus blur. The phone uses machine learning to work out what should be sharp in the the picture. These are examples supplied by Google but I’ll be testing this feature on many photos ahead of the review embargo. It works .. and it might save your old library.
iPhone 14 Pro introduces 48 MP sensor - camera changes explained
Apple announced four new iPhones today (iPhone 14 | iPhone 14 Plus | iPhone 14 Pro | iPhone 14 Pro Max) but as always it’s the cameras that grab the attention of Image Matrix Tech - so this story is all about the pro line. The iPhone 14 Pro breaks free from the 12MP tradition in the main camera for the first time. Apple has long held firm on tweaking its 12MP sensors - with great results mind you - but this is a big move that will see more changes in coming devices .. hopefully a periscope zoom.

In this video we take a look at the Fold 4, Flip 4, Watch 5, Watch 5 Pro and Buds 2 Pro.
Image Matrix Tech on Sky News: Boss 3D Printing Factory for construction - Boxabl Houses - OPPO A77 5G first look
In Sunday's segment on Sky News Australia (Weekend Edition with Tim Gilbert) we discussed how 3D printing technology could help solve Australia’s housing crisis by slashing production time. One of the oldest building product makers in the country has launched Australia’s first 3D printing factory for the industry. BOSS PRODUCTS is one of the biggest suppliers of planter boxes and retaining walls and it’s a sign of where the industry is heading overall as it battles supply and personnel issues.
BOSS PRODUCTS searched the world for the most advanced 3D Printing tech only to find it in Melbourne - LUYTEN 3D. The Platypus X2 3D printer has helped cut time and resources by up to 95 percent.
Image Matrix Tech on Sky News: Huntsman Telescope - Printing NASA Images - Pixel 6A - Android Earthquake alert for Australia
In Sunday's segment on Sky News Australia (Weekend Edition with Tim Gilbert) we took a tour of Siding Spring Observatory, Coonabarabran, where the HUNTSMAN TELESCOPE was launched. (not into space by the way ; )
It’s special because most big telescopes have a big mirror but the Huntsman is using off-the-shelf Canon lenses to better understand galaxy lifecycles - ahead of our collision with the Andromeda Galaxy in 4.5 billion years. These lenses are usually used for sport and wildlife photography. Comprising an array of 10 commercially available Canon EF 400mm f/2.8 L IS II super-telephoto lenses, the Huntsman Telescope is the only telescope of its kind in the Southern Hemisphere. Australia plays an important role in documenting the southern sky and this project is being overseen by the team from Macquarie University.
Image Matrix Tech on Sky News: Inside Telstra Blue Tick Lab - Projectors v TVs - Withings Scanwatch Horizon
In Sunday's segment on Sky News Australia (Weekend Edition with Tim Gilbert) we took a TV exclusive tour of Telstra’s upgraded Blue Tick lab which is in a secret location. Telstra’s Blue Tick program is way more important than I first thought. They are able to simulate outdoor conditions to make sure phones work in Australia - most importantly - in fringe coverage areas. The way we hold a smartphone could prove the difference between making a call or having no signal at all. It’s just one of the many tests inside the lab. It could make the difference on highways or farms by kilometres. And that’s a safety issue.
Image Matrix Tech on Sky News - Tiny Robots - Samsung Expert RAW - Sonos Ray - Soundboks Go
In Sunday's segment on Sky News Australia (Weekend Edition with Tim Gilbert) we looked at amazing tiny robots developed by the team at Northwestern University in Illinois, USA. They developed the smallest-ever remote-controlled walking robot — and it comes in the form of a tiny peekytoe crab. Just a half-millimetre wide, smaller than flea - the tiny robot crabs can bend, twist, crawl, walk, turn and even jump. The researchers also developed millimetre-sized robots resembling inchworms, crickets and beetles. The team used a laser beam to rapidly heat the robot. The heating and fast cooling creates motion.
In the very near future tiny robots, like these experimental creations, could assist in medical procedures like clearing clogged arteries, stopping internal bleeding or eliminating cancerous tumours. There’s a long, long way to go but this is exciting stuff.
SAMSUNG EXPERT RAW
If you have a new S22 Ultra you could be missing out on a massive photography update. Expert RAW is a ‘pro’ app that takes advantage of Ultra’s powerful camera array and ability to capture 16-bit images. It will allow users to unleash the full power of the S22 Ultra and other Samsung cameras. You can download it from the Galaxy Store. Other models supporting Expert RAW are: S21 Ultra and Fold3.
So if you’re doing a little photo editing, you’ll get some amazing results from Samsung’s latest flagship phone.
SONOS RAY SOUNDBAR
The Sonos Ray is a compact soundbar designed for smaller rooms, like a home office, bedroom or small TV/Gaming room. Key features are: - Optical input - Touch controls - TV remote sync - Apple AirPlay 2 - WiFi. I’ve just finished a full review on it and although small it packs a punch. Watch it here. It’s available from June 7 and costs $399 AUD.
SOUNDBOKS GO
If you want big sound on the go then the SOUNDBOKS GO is the ultimate speaker due to its insane volume and portability. It is very loud. Up to 121 dB. It weighs less than 9kgs , features two 72-watt continuous class D amplifiers, uses a removable battery and can be wirelessly linked to 5 SOUNDBOKS (Gen. 3) and Go speakers. It’s available now for $1099 AUD.
Keep an eye (ear) out for a review video soon.
Image Matrix Tech on Sky News: 2022 LG TV range - 2021 TV deals - 60MP Motorola Selfie - Canon PICK PTZ
In Sunday's segment on Sky News Australia (Weekend Edition with Tim Gilbert) we went through the key improvements in LG’s 2022 TV range. It can be overwhelming for a consumer when it comes to buying a new television so we offer some tips.

Image Matrix Tech on Sky News: Google Switch to Android App - Forcite MK1S smart helmet for motorbikes - Apple Watch Apps
Australia’s Forcite Helmets has just released the MK1S. A smart helmet inspired by a bike accident the CEO was injured in. It’s taken two years of development and $10.1M of R&D investment. The helmet includes smart navigation technology, alerting riders of upcoming dangers. The LED display is designed to be non-distracting - no need to look down or at a head-up display.
There’s no bulky clip-on camera or headsets. An embedded camera records continuously - in HD. Following an accident, or even a dropped helmet, Forcite owners can send their helmet to have the shell replaced and the tech components salvaged.
Another great Australian tech success story.
Image Matrix Tech on News: Easter road trip mobile coverage tips - INABOX QR storage - GoPro Volta Handgrip - Ultimate Gaming Bed
In Sunday's segment on Sky News Australia (Weekend Edition with Tim Gilbert) we looked at mobile coverage for Easter road trips. A cheap city plan may leave many travellers out of range on bush roads. This is where area coverage not population coverage matters. Australia is 7.7 million km² and Telstra covers 2.6 million km² - one million more than nearest rival Optus.
Clearly Telstra offers more coverage but you don’t need a Telstra account to take advantage of that wider service area. There’s a simple ‘hack’ without leaving your current provider that works fine in city areas. And that ‘hack’ is buying a Boost pre-paid sim. Boost is the only MVNO (Mobile Virtual Network Operator) that has access to Telstra’s entire network, excluding 5G which isn’t relevant in this discussion.
If you are already with Telstra you can get devices to boost coverage but you’re looking at another thousand dollars. I tested the CEL-FI Go on the fringe of Telstra’s network last year and it works. A quick look at coverage maps will show you there are still plenty of gaps out there so if you’re going off the main roads - take into account your mobile phone coverage. Or .. get a satellite phone.
Image Matrix Tech on Sky News - Infalurt Child Seat Sensor - Samsung A Series v iPhone SE - Samsung Frame TV
In Sunday's segment on Sky News Australia (Weekend Edition with Tim Gilbert) we looked Infalurt. It is an Australian designed, manufactured and owned in-car alert system that reminds parents their child is still in their car seat.
Each year thousands of Aussie kids are rescued after being left unattended in a car. But help is available thanks to locally developed technology. Infalurt has three simple components: a sensor that sits beneath the child seat, a control unit in an accessible position to the driver and a key fob alarm. The remote sensing technology sounds an alarm if the key holder leaves the car when a child is in the back seat.
Image Matrix Tech on Sky News: Where were all the phones at MWC? - Surface Laptop Studio arrives in Australia and Gran Turismo 7
In Sunday's segment on Sky News Australia (Weekend Edition with Tim Gilbert) we looked at Mobile World Congress and asked, “where were all the phones?”
Of course there were many phones there but we saw very few major reveals. The convention has become something a little different. Connectivity is about more than phones with the expanse of 5G globally. So laptops and hybrid devices are sharing the limelight with ‘traditional’ smartphones.
TCL made its mark during the week with a range of devices including - yes - phones.
Plus many other phone launches are happening before and after MWC in Barcelona. OPPO made jaw-dropping leap in fast charging. 240 Watts capable of charging a 4500 mAh battery from 0-100% in just nine minutes.
Samsung confirms Exynos 2200 is currently in mass production
Samsung Electronics has officially announced the Exynos 2200 is currently in mass production. So it appears it will be jammed into upcoming versions of the Galaxy S22.
The Exynos 2200 is Samsung’s long awaited mobile processor with AMD RDNA 2 architecture based Samsung Xclipse graphics processing unit (GPU).
Image Matrix Tech on Sky News: Cybertruck Delay - Hyundai Mobility Tech - Skullcandy offline assistant earbuds
In Sunday's segment on Sky News Australia (Weekend Edition with Jaynie Seal) we looked at Cybertruck and the latest reports of delays into next year. We also look at other options in the EV off-road 4WD space.
Hyundai's metamobility plans will free all people, young and old, to travel physically and via proxy robots.
Plus .. Skullcandy's SKULL-iQ gives new wireless earbuds handsfree operation - offline - all the time.
Shenzhen
This is a highlight package of Shenzhen's amazing light show celebrating China's 40th anniversary of reform and opening-up. The rise of Shenzhen from 30 thousand to more than 12 million since 1980 has to be seen to be believed. It's a must visit for any tech lover.
